About Our Community
We belong to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy (SJA), Bhubaneswar Province. Eluru is a small city in the State of Andhra Pradesh situated on the national highway NH5, connecting Vijayawada and Visahkapatnam and about 333 kilometers (207 mi) east of state capital, Hyderabad. It is well connected by rail, road and air.
It was the desire of late Bishop John of the Diocese of Eluru to have the sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy to open a house for the aged who had no one to care for them. They were either rejected or abandoned by their family or relatives. Many of them were suffering much from disability, malnutrition and various ailments. St. Joseph’s home for the aged was blessed and inaugurated on January 7, 1987 by Bishop John realizing one of his great dreams for the unwanted and abandoned people of the society.
The institute has the capacity to accommodate up to 50 persons. Today we have 40 residents. We provide optimum nursing care and a friendly, loving home like atmosphere. All their personal, physical, medical and spiritual needs are met by us.
Our support mainly comes from our friends, donors and well-wishers and some from our internal funds. We do have cultivable land which provides us with seasonal vegetables, rice and wheat. We do not receive any government funds and therefore we count on the support from kind-hearted people.
