The world, Fr. Medaille, our Founder, knew and lived in, was Christian, but divided, still suffering from the effects of religious wars and political upheavals. It was Christian, but unhappy, so our Founder directs the sisters’ attention to the poor and sick. God gave rise to our little Congregation especially for the relief of the sick and poor.”Our Congregation was started in a soup kitchen and the first sisters were directing a hospice at Montferrand in Lepuy, France.
We read in “The Origins of Sisters of St. Joseph”, if they had sufficient income to support themselves without undertaking employment, they will visit the sick and do other charitable works,” In our Original Documents, “They will take up, after seeing to their salvation and perfection, the holy exercises of mercy, hospital work and service of all kinds of sick people”.
Our Sisters, faithful to the intention of our Founder, continue to care for the sick in the hospitals and in their homes when possible and/or necessary. We remain in touch with our patients after they are discharged from the hospitals; give them emotional, psychological and medical support, and console the bereaved. We care for patients suffering from Tuberculosis, H.I.V/AIDs, accompany the family especially the children of the patients affected by these and other incurable diseases. The poor and patients in miserable conditions are accompanied to make their last journey to God, either at home or in Hospitals with full human dignity and respect.
Jesus went about doing good, curing the sick and preaching the Good News. Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy try to follow the Master in the service of the sick, the poor, and the lonely, by all means available and possible to them. We pray that many young are attracted to follow the Master in the service of the poor sick.
ST.JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL-BOBBILI | |
St. Joseph’s hospital, previously known as “Rani Subhadra Devi Hospital” for women and children, was started by Sir Arthur Hope, Governor of Madras on February 1, 1942. It was renowned for its service and treatment with a well-qualified team of doctors and staff. Many distinguished men and women who were born in this hospital continued to revisit the hospital to recall their place of birth. After some years, there was a gradual deterioration in the quality of treatment as no one showed any interest in its running. |
